Trypillia culture , also Trypillia [1] [2] , Cucuteni culture ( Romanian: Cultura Cucuteni ), Trypillia-Cucuteni cultural community  is an archaeological culture of Neolithic and early Eneolithic times , the Ukrainian name of which comes from the name of the village of Trypillia in the Kyiv region, and the Romanian name comes from the name of the Romanian village of Cukuten , where the first archaeological finds of artifacts of this culture were independently discovered at the end of the 19th century. On the territory of modern Ukraine, the Trypil culture was discovered by the Ukrainian archaeologist of Czech origin, Vikenty Hvojka .

The Trypil culture flourished between 5500 and 2750 BC. e., was located between the Carpathians and the Dnieper in the territories of modern Romania , Moldova and Ukraine with a total area of over 350,000 km². During the heyday of culture, it had the largest settlements in Europe : the number of inhabitants of some of them exceeded 15,000 people.

The Trypil culture is one of the main ancient agricultural cultures of the Stone and Copper Age (Eneolithic). The Trypil tribes occupied the expanses of Eastern Europe from the Carpathians to the Dnieper, from Polissia to the Black Sea . This culture developed in the V-IV thousand BC. e. (for 2000 years) and went through three stages in its development — early, middle and late. In Ukraine (as of 2014), more than two thousand monuments of Trypil culture were discovered. They are grouped in 15 regions: the largest in the Middle Transnistrian region and Nadprut and Nadbuzhha , less in the Transnistrian region  — probably due to the density of settlement of the tribal association.

One of the features of Trypil culture was the huge area of distribution (about 190 thousand km²). During its heyday (at the end of the middle stage), the population in the entire territory of the Tryplian culture, according to various estimates, was from 400 thousand to 2 million people [3] .

The problem of the origin of the people of Tripil has not been fully clarified. The majority of archaeologists are inclined to the opinion that the basis of the Early Tryplian culture was formed by southern agricultural and pastoral tribes of cultures of Balkan origin, which, however, in the process of spreading to new eastern territories absorbed elements of local Neolithic and Eneolithic cultures at various stages.
