There is hardly a more well-known work in the history of Ukrainian literature than Taras Shevchenko's "Kobzar" - a unique collection of his best poems from 1837 to 1861, written despite wandering and exile, which reflect the difficult fate of the people. 

The collection includes works of the poet that were previously removed by censorship, they embody an entire era of our history in the brightest, albeit rather tragic, manifestations.

Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko (1814—1861) is an outstanding Ukrainian artist, a man-legend. His work is multifaceted, he was both a deep lyricist, and the creator of epic poems, and a talented playwright, and an outstanding artist. He was the first in Ukrainian literature to appear as a truly folk poet, whose works fully reflected the feelings and thoughts of the working masses, their age-old aspirations for liberation.
