This collection of personal stories tries to give the reader some idea
of what it was like for Airborne troops – paratroopers, glider pilots and
glider-borne troops – in the early days of Airborne warfare.
They were just ordinary men from all walks of life, but they rose above
the ordinary and became the best fighting troops of the British Army.
They came to be known as the `Red Devils’, a name they are proud of
because it was earned in the hardest way imaginable.
