The reverse, designed by Leslie Durbin, shows the Thistle and Royal diadem representing Scotland.

The obverse shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin. The edge inscription is ‘ NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT’ which means ‘no one attacks me with impunity’.
