Product Description:

This item for sale is a new-old-stock 3T Mega-Chromix stem. It's an Italian made tig welded quill stem (from the 90's) that measures 130 mm in length. This stem is probably best characterized as a sport/fitness model with a simple, but durable, design and a reliable production process (i.e., tig welded tubular chromoly steel construction usually results in a fairly stiff and durable stem). The stiffness/durability claim is most likely enhanced by the oval/oversized shape of the stem body (relative to the equivalent 3T Chromix Corsa stem that has a more traditionally shaped...rounded...stem body). We should also note the chrome plated finish still shows fairly well...especially when considering the age of these stems.

Some of the more prominent design features and specs include the following...

  • Body length: 130 mm (measured from a profile view of the stem body as a straight line that extends from the center of the quill to the center of the bar clamp)

  • Body angle: 72 degrees (or said another way...a negative 18 degree rise)

  • Quill length: 70 mm (the distance between the limit line and the top of the quill...inclusive of the dust cover, if applicable)

  • Clamp: 25.4 mm (note this smaller sizing, which will be compatible with most upright/mountain bike style bars and some older drop bars that were spec'd to this smaller size)

  • Quill diameter: 22.2 mm (common size compatible with most 1" threaded forks)

  • Weight: 326 grams (per our digital postal scale and inclusive of all mounting hardware)

As for condition, we are near the end of our stocks in these stems (in this model/size/finish), so we have begun updating the pictures to reflect the next stem that will ship.  In this case, the worst of the cosmetic blemishes appears to be typical shopwear (scuffs/scratches) in the chrome finish. To be honest, the shopwear is probably more visible in person relative to what shows up in these pictures. I don't mean to dissuade anyone from purchasing one of my few remaining stems in this model/size/finish, but at the same time I want to be honest with folks. Listing Update...This is my last one.

We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.

Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value).
