Long before the annexation of Crimea, she realized that she was Ukrainian. Neither grandfather-lieutenant colonel of the KGB, nor Russian blood in his veins stood in the way of this. A childhood friendship with a Crimean Tatar woman and acquaintance with this culture became the seed that would later grow into the search for oneself and one's own national identity.

Crimean Tatar culture, Ukrainian literature and family secrets are intertwined in the novel. Together with the main character and her friends Aliya from Crimea and Alyona from Ukraine, the reader travels a long way from the childhood of the girls to the annexation of Crimea by Russia.

There is a saying among Crimeans: "There is no land beyond Perekop", they say, it doesn't matter what happens across the isthmus, on the mainland.

Anastasia Levkova's novel shows that there is land on both sides of Perekop. It is only necessary to get to know it and sew it together - to open the mainland for Crimea, and Crimea for the mainland.
