Old Primitive Hand Carved Wood FOLK ART Religious SANTOS Jesus Holding Bible

OLD HAND CARVED PRIMITIVE FOLK ART SANTOS STATUE

Wonderful old hand carved wood primitive religious Santos statue measuring about 11-3/4" in height. Featuring a figure of Jesus holding a bible in one arm and missing his hand in the other, he wears long draped robes and stands on 1" plinth.  Wood appears to be pine - statue is finishing with a treatment to detail the carving - similar to pickling on pine furniture. 

Condition is exactly what you want to see from a primitive folk art carved Santos piece - there is age related wear, minor chipping, a few tiny splits from wood shrinkage, rubbing, scuffs, etc. - there is an area on the back of exposed wood as shown - wood is smooth to the touch.  Figure leans slightly forward - it was designed to sit on a high shelf - the cant of the foot allows the figure to be better viewed when looking up.

A wonderful, moving large religious figure - beautifully aged and primitive - nice addition to any collection or display!
