Mykola Hryhorovych Zhulynskyi, a well-known critic, literary critic, public figure, professor, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, conceived this book as a large cheat sheet - a ready-made literary material with texts. From fifty essays - essays, the heroes of which are both well-known and little-known Ukrainian artists, the author creates a large panel - a complete portrait of the national literature of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The leading idea of the book: for many Ukrainian writers, the competition for their worldview was a competition for the preservation of the integrity of Ukrainian culture, for the preservation and development of the Ukrainian language, and therefore the Ukrainian nation.
An important component of this kind of anthology are artistic texts, carefully selected for each essay, among them - rarities or forgotten ones.
For those who study or teach Ukrainian literature, all those interested in the history and modernity of Ukrainian literature.
