| POSTING TO UK MAINLAND ADDRESS ONLY, GLOBAL SHIPPING PROGRAMME INCLUDED. THANK YOU. Absolutely Stunning & Very Unusual example of a large African Baule/Baoulé Tribal Art Carved Figure from the Ivory Coast. A complex & consider study of design featuring a seated, pregnant woman with a three legged cooking pot on her head with a standing bird eating a fish perched on the pot lid. The pot lid together with the bird is removable. The pretty young woman, with raised hair style, carries scarification decoration to her face, breasts & stomach. The stomach decoration is in the form of a Cross. The whole design carries a Picassoesque feel about it and could have been an influence to the artist either way. This very tactile sculpture with its wonderful detailed carving is a serious work of art from the hands of a true artist. Fabulous patina. As this study is a contemplative work of art I believe it carries a great deal of symbolism but regrettably I am no expert on African culture. Difficult to date but I would suggest early to mid 20th century. If you only wish to ever own one piece of African Art, this is the one! Superb piece of African Art! I am happy to provide further pictures on request. |
