1972 Press Photo Christmas trees being fertilized from a helicopter - hcx02387

This is an original press photo. Next year's Christmas trees, forests for scenic beauty and commercial wood production are being boosted by airborne fertilization. This picture was taken in the Cascade Mountains in Oregon where fertilizer is being loaded into a suspended hopper. The helicopter is said to be more practical than planes because the downdraft from the whirling blades evenly distributes the fertilizer particles. Photo measures 8 x 10 inches. Photo is dated 12-31-1972.
