Foldable double sided diamond sharpener. The coarse diamond side is 44 micron and the fine diamond side is 25 micron.

Description

The fact that this whetstone has foldable handles means that you can sharpen your knife without risking cutting yourself. As we get better and better knife steels, which are both stronger and harder, even greater demands are put on the tools we use to process these knives. Even if a diamond whetstone gets worn, it remains flat and that is a great advantage in the long run when sharpening knives. In addition, the diamond whetstones are fast in their action, you get a new edge very fast. No oil or water is needed either.

The yellow surface consists of titanium aluminum nitride which greatly prolongs the life of the sharpener. You use the rough side (44 microns) if you have received a real edge damage, the fine side (25 microns) for normal edge sharpening. The whetstone comes with an instruction in English on how to use it. For cleaning, use some washing-up liquid and hot water. Like all diamond sharpeners, this whetstone is a bit rough at first but gets smoother after a period of use. 

Sharpening Tips

The ink trick
Color the edge with a felt-tip pen. You can check your progress in sharpening the knife by observing where the color is removed.

How to check the sharpness
To check the sharpness of your knife, pull the edge very lighly on your finger nail. If it cuts, the knife is sharp enough for most tasks.

Break-in-period
Upon delivery, your new FDC whetstone will appear very coarse. This coarseness will disappear as the tool is put to use.

Blue plastic folding handle / Grit: Fine + Extra fine. 4.88" closed. Fine diamond side (25 micron, 600 mesh) and the coarse side (44 micron, 300 mesh). Hang packaged.  Folding design is compact and protects the sharpening surfaces
