Product Description
Most people may have a hard time hearing the difference between grime and post-garage grime. Some people may even have a hard time hearing the difference between post-garage grime and dubstep. But what really matters is that everyone who encounters this collection will have a hard time keeping his or her booty immobile. Gremlinz collects 18 tracks culled from Terror Danjah's production work between 2003 and 2009; most of them were originally issued in limited quantities on vinyl, and some were put together as backing tracks for rappers and singers. Some are remixes of tracks by such artists as Skepta, Big-E-D, and DJ Marsta. All of them lurch and groove in that slightly soca-fied, one-leg-shorter-then-the-other way that dubstep fans have come to know and love, and all of them partake of Terror Danjah's particular genius for texture and color (and the weirdly goofy, evil laugh that begins most of his recordings). The quality is quite consistent and highlights are a bit hard to identify, but "Reloadz" jumps back and forth particularly nicely between a stalking, grimy beat and a jump-up jungle freakout, and "Green Street" does an impressive amount of rhythmic work with a deceptively small fund of sounds. ~ Rick Anderson
