This is a vintage antique sample of barbed wire fencing.   This sample features a Joseph F. Glidden patent, dated November 24, 1874.   This wire is called "Glidden's Two Point Barb on One of Two Lines - All Aluminum" by collectors. (ref Hagemeier No.317-B. This wire features two round lines twisted together.  Barbs and lines are all aluminum.  Barbs are two pointed made from round stock, wrapped twice around one of the two line wires.  I really do not know what the concept was on using aluminum.  It surely did not stand up to stretching or fires. Wire shows minor pitting.   Sample is at least 18" in length.  There are three barbs well spaced, and cut is well centered.   There are no bends, breaks, or missing barbing points.
