Product Description:

This offering is for a new-old-stock Shimano Deore XT 6-speed UniGlide hubset (models HB-M730 and FH-M730 freehub). This set top-end quality from the mid 80's and finished in a polished (shiny) silver that still shows well. Detailed specifications include the following...

  • Hole count: 32H

  • Locknut dimensions: 100 mm (front) / 130 mm (rear)

  • Cluster compatibility: 6-speed non Dura-Ace UniGlide cassette

  • Axle type: hollow type with matching quick release skewers

  • Weight: 688 grams

  • Other specifications: For those that want to know the specific freehub body length (or said another way...the length of the splines on the hub body), we measure them to be 29 mm (and this includes the 6 mm external threaded section for a 6-speed non Dura-Ace UniGlide cassette).

We believe this hubset pre-dates Shimano's now higher-end XTR component group. So for this period, the Deore XT groupset would have been Shimano's top-end offering for mountain bikes. Shimano literature further indicates these hubs have a one-piece forged aluminum alloy body and a traditional cup-n-cone bearing design...so a very strong and durable offering that should hold up well under stressful conditions. This same reference material also indicates the cup-n-cone bearing design is enhanced to include some sealing properties that should help reduce internal wear. Now I will be the first to admit these sealing properties are not on par with more current cartridge bearing designs, but I believe Shimano's claim still holds some merit.

As for condition, this is a retail boxed set that still shows well. It's not cosmetically perfect given the 30+ years of storage time, but these sets are nice and have been well preserved. I can also confirm the pictures reflect the next set that will sell/ship (and I only have a couple of these sets left in stock). Listing Update...I only have one more of these sets left in stock.

Note to international customers regarding shipping...
We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.

Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
