This Audi A3 instrument cluster is a very common failure, the most common symptom is an intermittent or complete loss of instruments that also prevents the engine from starting due to the immobiliser system running through the instrument cluster.

Less common symptoms include; warning lights remaining on the even when the key is removed, flickering instrument lights and/or resetting of the date, time or trip mileage.

We see this type of Audi A3 [8P] instrument cluster failing at an alarming rate due to internal component failures which also causes firmware corruption. The high failure rate is due to issues with the original manufacture of the instrument cluster, the original components begin to fail causing a cascade effect until the internal firmware becomes completely corrupt. When diagnosing the fault, you may find that you are unable to communicate with the instrument cluster using your diagnostic equipment when the fault is occurring, but fault codes will be stored in other vehicle systems that complain of no communication with the immobiliser or instrument cluster. If you are able to gain communication with the cluster, then you will find stored fault codes for internal control unit malfunction.

 

Replacing the instrument cluster with a new unit from the manufacturer is very expensive, plus it will require coding to the vehicles immobiliser system, meaning that it will also require additional labour over and above just removal and refitting.

Not all parts can be repaired. If your part is not repairable, we will refund your payment and ship it back to you (there may be a return postage charge). If you send in an item that does not match the one in the description, we will contact you and try to repair it if requested.

The Lifetime Warranty covers the repair of your unit back to its original operating condition for any problems resulting from manufacturing or workmanship defects. All internal components and labour performed by ECU Testing LTD are fully covered. It is valid as long as you own the vehicle and is non-transferable. Shipping, removal, diagnostic, coding, programming, software download, and/or mechanic charges are not covered by the warranty. If ECU Testing LTD determines the part is beyond repair, we will either provide a replacement unit, or refund the entire purchase price, at our discretion. Factors that could void the warranty include, but are not limited to: water damage, fire damage, over voltage damage, part being damaged as a result of another defective part in the vehicle, damage caused by jump starting the vehicle, improper use, use in an application for which the part was not intended, or untimely return of core unit (if applicable)
