The Bank of Japan issued Japanese Yen banknotes including this 500 Japanese Yen banknote (Iwakura Tomorni 1969). They are part of the withdrawn Japanese Yen banknotes series. The Bank of Japan started issuing these 500 Japanese Yen banknotes in 1969. They were withdrawn from circulation in 1994.

The banknote of five hundred yen depicts the portrait of Iwakura Tomomi, Japanese statesman. On the paper note a caption reads ‘Nippon Gingko’. The mountain peak on the backside is Mount Fuji, located on Honshu Island.
