The 1971 album by Sir Paul & wife Linda, the only album credited to the pair, was released amidst the dissolution of The Beatles. Ram was the second of two albums Paul McCartney released between leaving the Beatles and forming the group Wings. Denny Seiwell, future Wings drummer, plays on Ram alongside McCartney and session musicians.

Ram produced three singles including the U.S. #1 hit "Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey", the minor British hits "The Back Seat of My Car", and "Eat At Home", which was released only in Europe.

The album reached number 1 in Britain and number 2 in the US, where it spent over five months in the Top 10 and went platinum.

Upon initial release, Ram met with harsh criticism but, by after a period of several years had passed, critical opinions begun to change in the albums' favor.

But McCartney never was quite the sap of his reputation, and even here, on possibly his most precious record, there's some ripping rock & roll in the mock-apocalyptic goof "Monkberry Moon Delight," the joyfully noisy "Smile Away," where his feet can be smelled a mile away, and "Eat at Home," a rollicking, winking sex song. All three of these are songs filled with good humor, and their foundation in old-time rock & roll makes it easy to overlook how inventive these productions are, but on the more obviously tuneful and gentle numbers -- the ones that are more quintessentially McCartney-esque -- it's plain to see how imaginative and gorgeous the arrangements are, especially on the sad, soaring finale, "Back Seat of My Car," but even on its humble opposite, the sweet "Heart of the Country." Paul McCartney continues the reissue series of his catalog albums with the release of a deluxe and expanded version of his 1971 album Ram via Hear Music/Concord Recordings. The formats will include a limited mono vinyl album, a four-disc CD/DVD box set that will include a book, and a double album on vinyl.

McCartney began his reissue campaign in 2010 with the release of an expanded version of Band on the Run. He then followed up the following year with deluxe versions of both his McCartney solo debut (1970) and McCartney II (1980) last spring.

The only album credited to both Paul and Linda McCartney, Ram reached number one in the U.K. and stayed in the U.S. top 10 for five months. Recorded after leaving The Beatles and before the formation of Wings, Paul and Linda initially flew to New York to record the songs they'd written but arrived without a band. As Paul recalls, "We were thinking of forming a group at that time, Wings. We went to New York, found a really grotty little basement somewhere and auditioned a bunch of people. We got someone to throw a lot of drummers at us, out of which we picked Denny Seiwell who's one of the best, and his personality fitted. Then we went in, worked with him, Hugh McCracken, Dave Spinozza, a couple of New York session men, and did Ram." To avoid arousing too much interest, the auditions were held under the guise of a session for a commercial jingle. The album features mainly Paul on lead vocals, with Linda joining him on harmonies. "I gave her a hard time, I must say [about the harmonies], but we were pleased with the results. Elton John later said somewhere that he thought it was the best harmonies he'd heard in a long while. It was very much the two of us against the world at that point." Despite an initially lukewarm Rolling Stone review, it was later hailed by them as one of McCartney's best solo albums.

Excellent pressing and mix!

Who'd thought this one would have ever been available again? It's a nice heavy and perfectly quiet pressing. The mono mix differs from the stereo mix and features some great songs and nice dynamics. Get it while you can!
