1982 Windsor Castle Bronze Medallion

The Bull of Clarence -

Is a symbol of power and might associated with the

rise of the House of York in the 15th century beginning

with the reign of Edward IV and later his brother

Richard III

("a horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse" etc).

Their middle brother was the George, Duke of Clarence -

the infamous one that was drowned in 'a butt of malmsey'

because he was such a pain in the butt

(my little joke - not really he continually committed

treason against Edward IV and he finally had enough)

and I am presuming this insignia had something

to do with him as well.

The Bull of Clarence was reputedly first

used on coins in the 1560s during the reign

of Elizabeth I, when all silver coins were

re-minted at Lizzie's command.

The Bull of Clarence is one of the

present Elizabeth's 'Ten Beasts'.

Not sure why this is produced in 1982

specifically by the Mint.

The medallion diameter  is 38mm.
