AN VERY BEAUTIFUL LOVELY DIALLED FULLY WORKING 1937 SOLID 925 STERLING ENGLISH SILVER EXTREMELY SOUGHT AFTER JW BENSON TROPICAL CASED FRANCOIS BORGEL SCREW BACK WRIST WATCH.

CASE:

The case to this beautiful and rare watch is solid English fully hallmarked QUALITY 925 STERLING SILVER. This is one of Francois Borgel’s inimitable cushion case screw back design. It NO personalizations to the case back and is in good original condition with no dings that I can see. There are some wear marks to the back. The bezel and case sides are in good condition showing normal age related wear scratches. I have gently polished the case, and it is shining nicely, as only solid silver can. THE WATCH MEASURES 3.1CMS (31mm) IN DIAMETER excluding the crown and lugs. The inside of the back cover is fully hallmarked for solid silver .(Glasgow 1937) and is marked with the famous Borgel key stamp and the Brevet mark. The sponsors mark is SFC and the case number is 52925646.

DIAL:

This lovely collectible watch has a stunningly beautiful original brilliant white dial. It is fully signed 'JW BENSON LONDON and SWISS MADE. It has NO major hairlines that I can see with just one imperfection just above 11 o’clock to the eye and is in excellent condition. It has lovely sharp and crisp Arabic black painted numerals. The dial also has a subsidiary dial which is in excellent condition. The plastic crystal is lightly used and is in good condition with light wear. The beautiful antique ‘cathedral’ watch hands have luminous paint infill and are in good condition.

MOVEMENT:

This is a stunningly beautiful near mint Swiss made manual wind FULLY JW BENSON SIGNED 15 jewel movement. This lovely wrist watch has been timed and oiled by my watchmaker. It is complete with its original metal movement dust cover. It runs extremely well and winds and sets as it should with just a little notchiness on the backwind. It has the wording 'Swiss made' stamped on it. It keeps good time as tested over a 24 hour period to within approximately a minute per day. The crown looks original and is in good condition showing some normal age related wear.

BAND:

This superb watch has a brand new 18mm black leather band fitted band with a white metal buckle. The watch and band measure 8 1/2 inches in total length. The band is in excellent condition and is very wearable.

Please remember that vintage watches have survived for many decades by being treated well. Vintage watches are not for wearing while doing yard work, working out, or swimming. Vintage watches cannot keep time like their quartz cousins and will need altering on average between +-2 to +-5 mins per day. They are a little more destructible than modern watches. Vintage watches also require periodic service and cleaning. Every couple of years, they would like their 20,000 mile checkup, oil change, and general service. By taking care of your vintage watch, you will have years of great service, and a quality heirloom to pass to another generation.
