Proclaimers book chap. 10 p. 134 Growing in Accurate Knowledge of the Truth
In 1844, E. B. Elliott, a British clergyman, drew attention to 1914 as a possible date for the end of the “seven times” of Daniel, but he also set out an alternate view that pointed to the time of the French Revolution. ... Then, in the August, September, and October 1875 issues of Herald of the Morning, N. H. Barbour helped to harmonize details that had been pointed out by others. Using chronology compiled by Christopher Bowen, a clergyman in England, and published by E. B. Elliott, Barbour identified the start of the Gentile Times with King Zedekiah’s removal from kingship as foretold at Ezekiel 21:25, 26, and he pointed to 1914 as marking the end of the Gentile Times.
1994 Awake 11/8 p. 10 The Real Significance of 1914
In 1844, a British clergyman, E. B. Elliott, drew attention to 1914 as a possible date for the end of the “seven times” of Daniel chapter 4. ... In 1875, Nelson H. Barbour wrote in his magazine Herald of the Morning that 1914 marked the end of a period that Jesus called “the appointed times of the nations.”—Luke 21:24.
Brother Russell knew about Elliot because he mentions him in an early Watchtower below:
July 1884 Watchtower page 4 (Article entitled The Sin of Man by A. J. Gordon)
But Alford holds that the naos tou Theou is here to be taken symbolically, and that so taken the words "can only bear one meaning, viz., the Church of the elect servants of God." With him agree the most eminent expositors of the Apocalypse, ancient and modern, from Merle to Elliot.
You can read in the Horae Apocalyptica Volume 4 on page 261 where it says:
Of course if calculated from Nebuchadnezzar's own accession and invasion of Judah, B.C. 606, the end is much later, being A.D. 1914 ; just one half century, or jubilean period, from our probable date of the opening of the Millennium.
