Lou Reed "City Lights" LP 1985 1st Press Classic Performances Arista ALB6-8390 EX
RCA Pressing Plant - Indianapolis
Lacquer Cut at - Sterling Sound
Lou Reed's music has recognized all sorts of temptations and from the Velvet Underground onward, it has suggested that there are kinds of salvation available if you know where to look. It's interesting to note Reed's "Arista years", the span of City Lights, coincided with the yep and yowl of punk rock, whose dept to the Velvet Underground was self-evident. This lineage led to Reed being called "The Godfather of Punk".
Lou Reed has written and performed songs that will be played at all tomorrow's parties, classics that are forever ripe for reinterpretation. Just as he provided an impetus for punk, he is currently proving to be an eminent figure in the resurgence of American Roots Rock (R.E.M). City Lights is a fragment chunk of a career that has permanently altered the rock & roll landscape. The A side was recorded live at the Bottom Line in 1978 and contains three reworkings of songs he first recorded for RCA. On the B side are six studio sides.
All the qualities that have made Lou Reed one of the most continually fascinating figures in modern music are here in abundance, on nine performances from a period that deserves reappraisal.

Mint (M) - Pristine, Looks as if it just came off the manufacturing line, also listed as New, Mint Sealed/Unopened.
Near Mint (NM) - Looks as if it just came from a store and was opened for the first time, maybe played a few times if ever, no evidence of play or wear what-so-ever.
Excellent (EX) or Very Good ++ (VG ++) - LP may have a faint surface mark or two barring it from being truly Near Mint, but sound quality will be be affected at all, Cover Sleeve is just short of Near Mint , often used for cover sleeve in Shrink, or with no Ring Wear or Staining or easily visible flaws whatsoever, seam and spine fully intact.
Very Good Plus (VG+) - Shows slight signs of wear, slight scuffs or scratches may be present but they do not affect playback other than faint surface noise heard sporadically in between tracks, or the occasional soft click from surface mark here or there, Cover Sleeve is considered still "Frameable" yet when observed closely will show to have a flaw or small flaws, very minor. Ring Wear if any, seam and spine intact but not Pristine.
Very Good/Very Good Plus (VG/VG+) - More obvious signs of wear and handling, LP has surface noise that is noticeable in some spots but perhaps is quiet and clean in other spots, clicks and pops will be heard, but will not significantly disrupt the music. Cover Sleeve shows more obvious Ring Wear or marks/staining, seams may have cracking, minor seam splitting or some missing spine text but are still fairly well intact. Writing may be present on label.
Very Good (VG) - Significant and obvious wear and handling includes surface noise throughout, audible scratches which causes clicks and pops and crackle but no skips or repeated grooves, Cover Sleeve may have significant Ringwear and/or staining, seam splits may be evident, label or sleeve may have writing, name, stickers etc
