Adam Bernard Mickiewicz is a Polish poet of Belarusian origin, political publicist, leader of the Polish national movement, member of the society of philomatics. He had a great influence on the formation of Polish and Belarusian literature in the 19th century. In Poland, he is considered one of the three greatest Polish poets of the Romantic era (along with Juliusz Slowacki and Zygmunt Krasinski). Some of the Belarusian writers distinguish Mickiewicz as one of the founders of the new Belarusian literature and a Belarusian Polish-speaking poet.
