Add a special touch to your table with this beautiful covered vegetable dish or bowl. The lid keeps food warm until ready to serve.  Bowl is 11.2 inches long, 8.2 inches wide, 1.5 inches high (without the lid). Lid is 10.5 " long, 7.5 inches wide and 1.5 inches high, which gives plenty of room to pile the food high before adding the lid. Handle has detailed decorative leaves where it attaches to the lid. Handle is easy to take on and off with a gentle half-turn. The removable lid makes storage easier and also allows the lid to be used as an extra serving bowl. Weight of bowl with lid is 1 pound, 10 oz. Two tiny dings on edge of  lid and light scattered scratches and spots of tarnish as would be typical with a well-loved piece approximately 100 years old.    The Meriden Silver Plate Company was founded in Connecticut in 1869. The mark seen on this piece (a lion sitting, facing left, holding an urn, with his curved tail seen on the right) was used until some time into the 1930's. The Meriden Silver Plate Company helped to form the International Silver Company in 1898, hence the name  "Meriden S.P. Co. Internationals Co." shown above the lion mark. I don't know the exact age of this piece, but since the mark was discontinued in the 1930's, I am estimating some time between 1898 and the mid 1930's.
