How John Lennon's confessional song became the title for a silly James Bond spoof I really don't know. The funny thing is, it works both ways--as a young man's personal statement about learning to open up to others, and as the frantic theme for an exotic espionage chase comedy starring those lovable mop-tops (this time in color). Like A Hard Day's Night, only the first "side" of this album actually contains songs from the movie--the biggest hits being the eponymous cry for assistance and "Ticket to Ride." But part 2 has a few nice tunes as well, like "It's Only Love," "I've Just Seen a Face," and a little ditty called "Yesterday." And I always love it when they do an all-out screamer like "Dizzy Miss Lizzy," which sounds like John's raucous answer to Paul's "Kansas City/Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey" vocal on Beatles for Sale. Of course, it's essential--as are all the Beatles' soundtracks (all the Beatles' albums), with the possible exception of Yellow Submarine.

This is really a deluxe reissue project, done properly, and with careful attention to detail. Beatles collectors and even casual fans of the Lads from Liverpool will be transfixed. Treat yourself!

On February 7, 1964, The Beatles arrived at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport, greeted by scores of screaming, swooning fans who rushed the gate to catch a glimpse of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr as they took their first steps on American soil. Two nights later, on Sunday, February 9, 73 million viewers in the U.S. and millions more in Canada tuned in to CBS to watch The Beatles make their American television debut on ‘The Ed Sullivan Show.’ In what remains one of the world’s top-viewed television events of all time, The Beatles performed five songs on the live broadcast and ‘Beatlemania,’ already in full, feverish bloom in The Beatles’ native U.K., was unleashed with blissful fervor across America and around the world. The British Invasion had begun. The U.S. albums were originally issued between 1964 and 1970 by Capitol Records, Apple Records, and United Artists in the United States. These new releases seek to replicate the unique listening experience heard by Americans at the time by preserving the sequences, timings, and artwork found on the albums. Capitol’s engineers in the 1960s took great care to produce what they believed to be the best possible sound for the playback equipment in use at that time. Due to the limitations of the record players of the day, engineers often compressed the sound by raising the volume of the softer passages and lowering the volume for the louder parts of the songs. They also reduced the bass frequencies since too much bass could cause the record to skip. In some cases, reverb was added to the tracks to make them sound more “American.” This CD is packaged in a miniature vinyl sleeve that faithfully recreates the original U.S. LP release down to the finest detail, including the inner sleeve.  This album is a limited edition release.

This  CD is the genuine (American) article.

And it's worth preserving for what it was and is. The Beatles and George Martin both knew exactly why Capitol was releasing different versions of these records in America, and George Martin gave Capitol his stereo mixes for that purpose, after which Capitol added some reverb on certain songs, but the fact of the matter is that both Martin and the Beatles had no problem whatsoever with this practice.

I actually like the fake stereo and reverb from these US albums...it was a product of the times and of the era, and in fact the first four mono UK albums as they sound on the current EMI CDs are very flat, dull, and dry. This new Meet the Beatles beats the pants off With the Beatles. It's big and bold. The Beatles 65 material has never sounded better, listen to Baby's in Black. No comparison to the Beatles For Sale CD. For those who really wish to hear a cleaner version of With the Beatles, you can have some fun by taking these new mono mixes in this box set, and reconstructing With the Beatles from the tracks here on MTB and the 2nd Album. You'll make yourself a new version of WTB that sounds way better than the flimsy EMI disc.
, but I have to say, kudos to Capitol, they did a great job musically by cleaning up the American tapes, and then leaving them alone

WITH GATEFOLD JACKET - HELP! [ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK] was originally released August 13, 1965 in the U.S. It spent nine weeks at No. 1

Help! is the fifth UK album and the 10th U.S. album by The Beatles. It features the singles "Help!", "Ticket To Ride" and "Yesterday" and was ranked in 2003 by Rolling Stone magazine at number 332 on their list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

The original Beatles catalogue has been digitally re-mastered for the first time for worldwide CD release. Each CD is packaged with replicated original UK album art, including expanded booklets containing original and newly written liner notes and rare photos. For a limited period, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album.

The albums have been re-mastered by a dedicated team of engineers at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios in London over a four year period utilizing state of the art recording technology alongside vintage studio equipment, carefully maintaining the authenticity and integrity of the original analogue recordings. The result of this painstaking process is the highest fidelity the catalogue has seen since its original release.

The stereo CD includes track listings and artwork as originally released in the UK. Within the CD’s new packaging, booklet includes detailed historical notes along with informative recording notes. These stereo CDs will be housed in a three-panel eco digi-pack with 14 page booklet.

A newly produced mini-documentary on the making of the album, directed by Bob Smeaton, is included as a QuickTime file on the album. The documentary contains archival footage, rare photographs and never-before-heard studio chat from The Beatles, offering a unique and very personal insight into the studio atmosphere.

"For the new remasters, the engineer went back to the original 1960's analog master tapes. Remastering is about working with, sharpening, amplifying, clarifying, and enhancing what are already the settled (or established) facts of the original mix. A listening session in early June at Electric Lady Studios in Manhattan confirmed that this is exactly what has been done. In A/B comparisons with the 1987 CD versions, the Beatles' records sounded more alive, more spirited, with greater dynamic range, and a new spaciousness that was very apparent... These new releases are an audiophile's dream - on good gear, they do sound much improved." - Robert Baird, Stereophile Magazine, October 2009, Vol. 32, No.

"The moptops' second movie was a Swinging London goof, but the soundtrack was a smashing time, including the classics "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" and "Ticket to Ride," and the lovely "I've Just Seen a Face." Help! didn't break new ground, but it paved the way for the Beatles' next stop: Rubber Soul." - rollingstone
