Just carrying a ruler with you in your pocket should be forbidden, at least on a moral basis

F. Hundertwasser

When we dream alone it is only a dream, but when many dream together it is the beginning of a new reality

H. Camara, lifetime motto of  F. Hundertwasser

Montblanc honors F. Hundertwasser with this unique limited edition 100 Artisan fountain pen. Friedensreich Hundertwasser was a unconventional artist, a painter, architect, and ecologist.

He caused controversy around the world with his works, in which some were not completed until after his death.  Hunderwasser's works ranged from complete rejection to thunderous applause.  He was not only Vienna's foremost eccentric artist, but one of Austria's most well known personalities.

Hundertwasser is well known for his abstract works which always featured a diversity of colors.  He gained experience from his extensive trips to countries such as Italy, France, Morocco, and Japan.

Friedensreich Hundertwasser used colorful ornaments, swooping contours, and spirals in his works.  In fact, Hundertwasser hated straight lines and right angles, he called them the "Devil's tools".  Spirals were somewhat of a signature of Hundertwasser, he saw them as symbols that represent life, infinity, and freedom.

In 1958, Hundertwasser had banned straight line from all of his architectural drawings.  He replaced them with spirals and formed organic buildings.  He made dancing windows, ornamental facades, and multi-colored towers with onion domes.  He made his fantasy buildings come to life.

Described as "a magician with colour and form," Friedensreich Hundertwasser created paintings and buildings that seem to emerge from a multicolored dreamworld. This fanciful pen embodies the spirit of Hundertwasser's work, rejecting straight lines and embracing bright colors, varied textures, and wild patterns. His signature spiral motif can be found in the barrel engravings and in the form of the clip. The irregularly shaped barrel is striped with twisting lines of blue lacquer, and gives form to Hundertwasser's playful dictum: "Just carrying a ruler with you in your pocket should be forbidden, at least on a moral basis". A fitting tribute to one of the 20th century's most fascinating artists.

The pen is fashioned of 18 karat solid gold; the captop is studded with various colored stones. 18K gold nib engraved with the artist's abstract motifs. Outer box, pictorical inner box, lacquered wood display box, booklet. Excellent condition, not inked. Limitation numbers on outer box, display box, pen and booklet match. Booklet signed and duly stamped (Montblanc Simplo GmbH / Hellgrunweg 100 / D-22525 Hamburg).
