In 1565 the publisher Richard BRETON discovered in Paris a thin volume containing a set of 120 figures without any text with the title "LES SONGES DROLATICS DE PANTAGRUEL, or are contained several figures of the invention of master François RABELAIS; & last work of 'iceluy for the recreation of good spirits' This will remain the only known print from this period.
The engraver remained unknown.
The characters represented are caricatures of famous people of the time. Some studies have attempted to recognize the characters represented with more or less success.
