Small book measuring 5.0x7.5 has no dust jacket; large gilt title on front is unworn but rather blends into the green color of the covers. Small title on spine is unreadable. Light wear along cover edges, tips and spine ends. Front cover slightly flares at bottom 3" and back cover slightly flares at top 3". Leaf edges good, covers tight at binding.

Book consists of 99 pages with good, clean, sturdy paper that is medium-ivory, each page has same decorative rectangle in gold tone framing page/poem, nice appearing. Pages good at binding with book having been widely opened between pages 40-41, not cracked, slightly stressed. Page 41 has light brown shadow where paper/picture had been stored, slight shadow on facing page 40. One front page is a bit wrinkled as an illustration of author has been glued onto page designed for the small illustration piece, some glue residue along paper edges has caused some small brown spots on the illustration page and facing page which is first poem page. There is an erasure on front blank page which could have been original price, book came from large collection where several books had what appeared to be original penciled prices.

This is a compact, wonderful little poem book, poems are most interesting, not overly long, some quite short, many are a bit emotional. Author has Foreword indicating that California is his foster-mother in this book of 86 poems.
