Art Deco Philippe Rouart French Ceramic Pair Baluster Vases Turquoise 1940

Pair of baluster vaes in turquoise ceramic made by Philippe Rouart artist during the 1940's Art Deco period. The ceramic with turquoise slip and salt glaze is percied on the top with siw holes and one central largest. Good condition small chips on the base of one vase as you can see on the pictures below. They are signed on the bottom. 11" high.

Philippe Rouart (1904-1993), ceramist, engraver and painter. Second son of the impressionist artist Louis Rouart and Christine Lerolle, cousin of Paule Gobillard,initiated to the art by these aunts Julie Manet et Berthe Morisot, student of Maurice Denis and friend of Desvallières. He displays his work in CHamp de Mars fair since 1920, Salon des Indépendants , Salon des Tuileries and in 1926 to the Gallery Drouet. He works with his uncle Ernest Rouart to the Centennial exhibition for Manet in 1932, for Degas in 19374 and Berthe Morisot in 1941. Highly rated on Art Price.

For our  French-speaking friends: Paire de vases ovoïdes, vers 1940 par Philippe Rouart. Faïence de forme balustre pansue se rétrécissant en partie inférieure, glaçure au sel, engobe turquoise. Embouchures étroites, au centre une sorte de col souligné d'un bourrelet en sa circonférence six autres trous. Bel état, petites égrenures à la base d'un vase, signés sur leurs fonds. Hauteur 27,7 cm.

Philippe ROUART (1904 - 1993) : céramiste, graveur et peintre. Deuxieme fils, de Louis Rouart et Christine Lerolle tout deux peintres impressionnistes, cousin de Paule Gobillard, initié par ses tantes Julie Manet et Berthe Morisot, son mentor et parrain Maurice Denis chez qui il rencontrera Desvallieres avec lequel il entretiendra de solides liens d'amitié jusqu'en 1950. Il exposa dès 1920 Au Salon du Champ de Mars, aux Independants, au Salon des Tuileries, en 1926 a la Galerie Druet, Au Salon d'automne. Il participa avec son oncle Ernest Rouart a l'organisation de l'Exposition du Centenaire de Manet en 1932 et celle de Edgar Degas en 1937 puis de Berthe Morisot en 1941. Il participera également à la grande aventure de l'Art Sacré. Artiste bien côté sur ArtPrice.
