This is a superb 1940s wartime pattern designed for men in the British Fleet which gave the knitter an opportunity to knit a V-neck pullover with 3/4 length or full length sleeves and a sleeveless version of the same pullover, both of which are knitted in stocking-stitch.
Both items were designed in consultation with the Admiralty and the 3/4 length sleeved version suited Admiralty requirements (for sleeves) as long sleeves would get wet at the wrist and the moisture would travel up the arm. A super pattern for historical reenactment and maritime enthusiasts as well many other outdoor activities. Both items were originally knitted in Sirdar 'Majestic' Knitting Wool (4-ply) which has long since been discontinued, so try a modern D/K in place of the vintage 4-ply as vintage yarns were heavier than modern, but as always work a tension square to see if a change of needles is needed to obtain the tension stipulated in the pattern.
