Original 1847 Merchant's Bank Andrew Hicks Check
WOW! Here is an Original 1847 Merchant's Bank Andrew Hicks Check. This 6" by 2 1/4" Merchant's Bank check was signed by Andrew Hicks, who was a Whaler Baron and died on February 4, 1895 at 96 years old. He owned interests in 11 vessels and had built 8 or more during his career. He represented Westport, Massachusetts in the Legislature of 1866 and for a third of a century was a justice of the peace. The check features a small vignette and a small slit cut in the outline of an 'X', which is how they canceled checks. Also included is a small biography of Andrew Hicks. See photos for condition.
