LESLIE ARTHUR BOOSEY.(1887-1979)
ONE HALF OF BRITAINS MOST FAMOUS MUSICAL PARTNERSHIP- BOOSEY & HAWKES. The Boosey family was of Franco–Flemish origin.Boosey & Company traces its roots back to John Boosey, a bookseller in London in the 1760s–1770s. His son Thomas continued the business at 4 Old Bond Street and from 1819 the bookshop was called Boosey & Sons or T. & T. Boosey.
Leslie Boosey and Ralph Hawkes met in the 1920s when they were on the Board of the Performing Right Society, and saw an opportunity to go into business together. They formed Boosey & Hawkes in October 1930 through a merger of their respective businesses. Hawkes & Son moved from its office in Denman Street to join the Boosey staff at 295 Regent Street.
LESLIE ARTHUR BOOSEY WAS CHAIRMAN OF THE PERFORMING RIGHTS SOCIETY IN GREAT BRITAIN AND RETIRED AS CHAIRMAN IN 1935. THIS WATCH IS THE RETIREMENT GIFT FROM THE MEMBERS OF THE P.R.S.

CASE:
This is an absolutely stunning SOLID 18 CARAT 4 piece yellow gold LOVELY slim watch case. This case was/still is the absolute height of quality and looks great. It shows light normal wear marks and a few dings through normal usage. The case has a yellow gold bezel which is EXCELLENT. The watch has a solid 18 carat gold dustcover which shows a few dings, some scratches and 2 noticeable creases. The watch is engraved to the case back with the presentation inscription 'To Leslie A Boosey Esq Chairman of the P.R.S. from the members in recognition of valuable services June 1935' This beautiful quality watch case is fully hallmarked and under magnification the hall mark is for London 1932. The case measures 4.3cms (43mm) across.
DIAL:
This beautiful MAPPIN & WEBB MOVADO pocket watch has the most fantastic and minty pinky colored GENUINE MOTHER OF PEARL dial. This type of dial would have been very rare in this period on a pocket watch. The dial is fully signed 'MAPPIN'. It shows NO damage or hairlines that I can see. The dial has beautiful applied gold baton numerals with a dotted outside minute track. The dial has a lovely sub second dial which is in excellent condition. The minute and hour hands are original and are golden steel with just a little oxidisation and the sub second hand is matching. The crystal is a later plastic replacement and is in good condition showing just a few light marks.
MOVEMENT:
This is a beautiful MOVADO cal 620N 15 jeweled movement with Chronometer grade micrometric adjustment. It is unsigned but is a VERY high quality time piece. The plates are finished beautifully. These movements were only made in small numbers and are exceedingly rare to find. This is a CHRONOMETER movement and is fitted with a patented micro regulator. This beautiful movement has been carefully cleaned and oiled by my watch maker and although it cannot be expected to keep Observatory quality time now after approximately 90+ years, it is keeping very good time as tested over a 24 hour period.
BOX:
This fine original pocket watch is then made complete with its ORIGINAL SUPPLIED Mappin & Webb of LONDON BOX. The box is in beautiful condition. It is FULLY SIGNED inside.
