Received three Academy Awards for Best Picture: On the Waterfront (1954), The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1964. John Osborne was an English playwright and screenwriter. Credited with creating the "angry young man" prototype in theatre of the 1950s. His major plays include Look Back in Anger (1956), The Entertainer (1957) and Luther (1961). He won the Academy Award for Tom Jones (1963) for Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium. Married five times, including to actresses Mary Ure and Jill Bennett.
