This is a superb original signed watercolor on paper
painting by well-listed early California artist ARTHUR ELLIOTT (American, 1913 - 1983), circa 1943.
This rare original watercolor is signed in pencil by the
artist on the front lower left "Elliott". It is also stamped with the artist's
estate stamp on the verso and signed by Fiona Elliott. It is in good overall
condition, measures
12 ¾" x 16 ½" and is unframed. PROVENANCE:

Born in Philadelphia,
PA on June 7, 1913. Elliott entered the PAFA in 1931
for a four-year course of study and continued his art studies in Europe. In 1936 he moved to Los Angeles where he exhibited in local shows
and was an animator for Disney Studios for six years. During WWII he served in
the U.S. Navy, producing and directing training films. In 1949 he left Los Angeles and
established a studio in Paris
and in 1957 settled in Italy.
While in Europe he had many solo exhibitions
in Paris and Rome. As well as
portraits in oil, Elliott also designed chess sets. Returning to California in 1983, he
died on April 7 at his home in Hollywood.
