WES MONTGOMERY - MOVIN WES - THIS TITLE IS LONG OUT OF PRINT SUNDAZED RECORDS AND SO RARE NOW THAT THE WORLD ONLY OTHER SELLER THAT HAS A SEALED COPY FOR SALE HAS IT PRICED AT $400

MOVIN WES - HEAVY VINYL AUDIOPHILE OUT OF PRINT LIMITED EDITION AND IS SELLING A LONE FOR AS MUCH AS $400 IN PRISTINE SEALED CONDITION. Wes Montgomery demonstrates on his 1964 Verve debut album, Movin' Wes, just what fabulous sounds he coaxes from his instrument, no matter how he gets it done. Wes is accompanied here by a 12-piece mini-big band consisting of multi-reed man Jerome Richardson, a trumpet section consisting of Clark Terry and Basie veterans Ernie Royal and Snooky Young, trombonists Urbie Green and Jimmy Cleveland and a rhythm section of pianist Bobby Scott, bassist Bob Cranshaw and drummer Grady Tate. Wes shines like a diamond on show tunes "People" and "Matchmaker," moody Ellington chestnut "Caravan" and a handful of originals, forever reversing the old proverb: It ain't the way you do it, it's what you do. Rest assured, Wes Montgomery can do it.

FUSION WITH STRINGS - DO NOT be fooled by the title "Fusion", nor be put off by the strings. This is the very last of Wes' recordings for Riverside and it is five star all the way. The playing is somewhat 'future Wes', but this is a swinging session. Check out especially both takes of "Tune Up". On the alternate take, Wes misses an easy octave, plays 'Pop Goes The Weasel', shows his frustration, then proceeds to tear up the turnaround so deliciously with his phrasing and touch that it may be one of my top 5 Wes moments ever recorded. To this day, when Jimmy Ponder plays "Tune Up" it is this arrangement that he almost always chooses. These sessions are included on the "Complete Riverside Recordings" and were also released as a Milestone Records LP under the title "Pretty Blue" in 1974. I'll take that title over "Fusion" any day of the week. "Pretty Blue" is worth trying to find (if you have a turntable...) solely for the liner notes by Orrin Keepnews. Forget the title and enjoy the recording!

HANK GARLAND- Subtle Swing 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE VINYL

A former country picker, Garland excelled when he decided to cut some jazz sides, accompanied here by vibraphone prodigy Gary Burton in a set that emphasizes Garland’s knack for understated yet warm improvisational flourishes.

Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - Rated 15/500

Out Of Print!!

Two LP set of the 1966 recording for The Jimi Hendrix Experience's debut album. This album begins in London, before the group has a record contract. Are You Experienced makes its U.S debut in August of 1967. The album lands in Billboard's Top 10 and spends 106 weeks in the magazine's album charts, including 77 weeks in the Top 40. The Jimi Hendrix Experience play their first US concert on June 18, 1967 at the Monterey Pop Festival. Audiences are astounded when Hendrix concludes his performance by setting his guitar on fire and smashing it against his amps. Includes the legendary Hendrix favourites, 'Purple Haze', 'Hey Joe', 'Manic Depression' and more. A must have for all music fans!

The debut release from The Jimi Hendrix Experience is widely regarded as the greatest, most influential debut release from any artist. When first released in 1967, Are You Experienced turned the music world upside down as Hendrix showed everyone exactly what it meant to be 'experienced.' Remastered from the original 2-track mixdown master tapes, this expanded 17-song collection features the ageless classics "Purple Haze," "Red House," "Stone Free," "Hey Joe," and "Are You Experienced."

"The incendiary poetry of Hendrix's guitar was historic in itself, the luminescent sum of his chitlin-circuit labors with Little Richard and the Isley Brothers and his melodic exploitation of amp howl. But it was the pictorial heat of his composing and the raw fire in his voice in "Manic Depression," "The Wind Cries Mary" and "I Don't Live Today" that established the transcendent promise of psychedelia." - .rollingsto

LEE RITENOUR CAPTAIN FINGERS EPIC RECORDS PE-34426

CAPTAIN FINGERS is a Ritenour cover to cover masterpiece. If you like great guitar jazz/rock you will love this piece of vinyl.

Lee Ritenour blazes in CAPTAIN FINGERS. Sons of Champlin singer goes off in “Isn't She Lovely” as does Lee on guitar. “Space Glide” is a catchy rhythmic tune with a great sax solo and great guitar work. “Margarita” and “Fly By Night” are very melodic guitar tunes with lots of creative changes. The rhythm section is tight and the guitar playing is awesome. The sax and keyboards just make it a more tasty blend of music. All the musicians are skilled pros. Recommended to jazz/rock guitar fans.

AL DIMEOLA - SPLENDIDO HOTEL - CBS RECORDS C2X 36270 WITH GATEFOLD COVER

Al Di Meola earned his stripes playing alongside Stanley Clarke and Chick Corea in Return to Forever, but he made his most compelling personal statements with 1980's SPLENDIDO HOTEL and its precursor, Elegant Gypsy. Di Meola's compositional embrace of Argentinean tango (on a duet with Corea), Brazilian bossa (the romantic "Silent Story in Her Eyes"), and flamenco compas (the overdubbed solo piece "Splendido Sundance") made him more than just another fast guitar player and paved the way for his future work with John McLaughlin and Paco DeLucia. Here he duets with Les Paul on Bert Kaempfert's comfy "Spanish Eyes," tries his hand at singing an up-tempo soul number ("I Can Tell"), blazes through odd-meter jazz-rockers ("Dinner Music of the Gods"), and closes with the acoustic "Bianca's Midnight Lullaby." This is an ambitious--and very long--set with contributions from Anthony Jackson, Steve Gadd, Phillipe Saisse, and Jan Hammer.

JIM HALL UNDERCURRENT UNITED ARTISTS RECORDS Factory Sealed LP

The music here is a sort of symbiotic improvisation between two master jazz giants at the peak of their creative power and maturity. The album is splendid, magic and evocative. I mean, two of the best impressionist musicians I know about, Jim Hall and Bill Evans .. consider that making a piano and a guitar work together it is absolutely not easy at it seems. The two instruments are both armonical and melodical and they stand both in the medium register so ... it's not easy, but these masters could do anything they would of course. You have to own Undercurrent. The music is so beautiful that owning this one is   a must. The cover is really one of the most stunning record cover in the Jazz field. It is really a work of art. Now, without the titles on it, it is even better. I love it ... to death.

The album more than repays the investment.  One of the highlights is the up-tempo treatment of "My Funny Valentine" which, given its harmonies, makes complete musical sense.  Thank goodness Blue Note thought to reissue the session (thankfully, too, capturing the sound of the piano was not left to Van Gelder).

GRANT GREEN THE LATIN BIT BLUE NOTE RECORDS STEREO ST-84111 FACTORY SEALED

Probably the most well known tune on the release is "mambo inn", made famous by george shearing quintet a few years earlier. While Johnny Acea's piano playing is similar to shearing's, Green's excellent, and long, guitar solo gives the track its own uniqueness. Also included on the LP is a samba version of charlie parker's, "My little Suede Shoes". again, Green takes control of the song, with a few excellent and creative solos but, while Green's nimble and relaxed guitar playing give the LP a spark, it's the backing band that keeps it fresh. Willie Bobo keeps everything steady on the drums, while Potato Valdez on the congas and carvin masseaux on the chekere make the music sound Tremendous.

SANTANA - SANTANA - LAST OUT OF PRINT RE-ISSUE FROM THE ORIGINAL COLUMBIA RECORDS LABEL PC 09781 - THIS IS FOR COLLECTORS WHO WANT TO OWN ORIGINAL LABEL PRESSINGS.

This was Santana’s debut LP and was a powerful and original masterpiece. When Santana arrived on the San Francisco scene in 1968, the Grateful Dead’s freeform antics were already legendary. But, Santana was a jam band of another order fueled by Latin rhythms, blues, bee bop, and straight ahead rock. Having set the audience at the 1969 Woodstock Festival on its collective ear, the band did the same for the nation with its self-titled debut released later than summer.

Songs such as Evil Ways - Jingo and Soul Sacrifice contain extraordinary ensemble playing powered by congas and timbales and topped by the gripping human cry of Carlos Santana’s guitar. A rock classic cover to cover!!

Selections:
1. Waiting
2. Evil Ways
3. Shades Of Time
4. Savor
5. Jingo
6. Persuasion
7. Treat
8. You Just Don't Care
9. Soul Sacrifice

JEFF BECK'S BLOW BY BLOW COLUMBIA/EPIC RECORDS PE 33409 ISSUE - Produced by George Martin, the nine-song session finds Beck fronting a keyboards-bass-drums outfit, augmented by some tastefully unobtrusive string arrangements. Call it a jazz-fusion album at your own risk. While Beck's playing is less in-your-face than his previous efforts, all the fierce attack, thick tone, microtonal bends, distortion, feedback, vibrato, sustain, sonic hoodoo, and rhythmic and harmonic creativity that the man's fans have come to know and love can be heard here. "Freeway Jam" boasts the most memorable melody and thus remains a Classic Rock staple to this day. "Cause We've Ended As Lovers"--written by Stevie Wonder--is Beck's gorgeous tribute to one of his own guitar-heroes, the now-deceased Roy Buchanan.

Selections:
1. You Know What I Mean
2. She's A Woman
3. Constipated Duck
4. Air Blower
5. Scatterbrain

PROGRESSIONS: 100 YEARS OF JAZZ GUITAR 4 CD SET IN MINT CONDITION AS A BONUS

Seventy-eight guitar giants, many of whom influenced the rise of rock-n-roll (precluding Elvis Presley & The Beatles), are included in 100 Years of Jazz Guitar, a remarkable 4-CD anthology that not only draws upon the extensive catalogues of Columbia and RCA Records and their subsidiaries, but leases material from about 30 other original labels to yield the absolutely definitive jazz guitar collection ever assembled. The set spans the years 1906 to 2001, from the ragtime banjo of Vess Ossman to the diaphonous chords of Bill Frisell. In between, virtually every major figure of the jazz guitar weighs in, from Eddie Lang, Django Reinhardt, and Charlie Christian to Les Paul, Tal Farlow and Wes Montgomery, and right up to Jim Hall, Grant Green, George Benson, Pat Martino, John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny, and John Scofield (one of the producers of this set).

The package's artistic focus is not strictly limited to pure jazz players, as witness the presence of a variegated group of important improvisers like Hawaiian string kings Roy Smeck and Sol Hoopi, Western Swing aces Leon McAuliffe and Eldon Shamblin, and the brilliant Brazilians Laurindo Almeida, Joao Gilberto (the godfather of Bossa Nova) and Toninho Horta. One also encounters country-jazz innovator Hank Garland, rock-n-blues titans Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, and Jeff Beck, progressive rock icon Allan Holdsworth, fusion meisters Larry Carlton, Al DiMeola, and Mike Stern, and avant-garde pace setters Derek Bailey, Sonny Sharrock, James "Blood" Ulmer, and Marc Ribot.

In addition, the box contains a 148-page book filled with photographs of each of the principles heard herein, an authoritative overview essay by British guitar scholar Charles Alexander, vintage guitar ads, photos of the many classic guitar models and amps, solo transcription and technical analysis, testimonials from 25 contemporary guitar legends, and precise discographical data. Clearly, 100 Years of Jazz Guitar is THE set to get if one is even remotely interested in the history and development of guitar over the course of the past century. Guitar starts here!
