This fabulous 1950s dress is both eye catching and stylish, and the style is so versatile it could quite happily be at home as a wedding dress, bridesmaids dress, prom dress or for that special occasion. The dress will fit up to a 36 inch bust and the delicate skirt of the dress is knitted in 4 panels and is shaped by grading the size of needles. Basic crochet is needed when making up the dress to work the neck and sleeve borders (ch., d.c. and s.s.), and the dress is fastened by a side zip. 3 net underskirts give the fullness needed for the look in the photograph, and though instructions do not inform you how to make the underskirts except to 'make 3 net underskirts and gather on to inside of waist', you may wish to purchase a ready made elasticated waist net underskirt (available on ebay) or make your own (very simple to do) The dress was originally knitted in a 2-ply yarn, but you may wish to try a modern 3-ply as vintage yarns were heavier than modern, but work your tension square to see if a change of needles is needed to obtain the tension stipulated in the pattern. This is another project I cannot wait to try!
