Japanese OBI MINI REPLICA  WHAT IS A JAPAN "MINI-LP-SLEEVE" CD?

Have you ever lamented the loss of one of the 20th Century's great art forms, the 12" vinyl LP jacket? Then "mini-LP-sleeve" CD's may be for you.

Mini-sleeve CDs are manufactured in Japan under license. The disc is packaged inside a 135MM X 135MM cardboard precision-miniature replica of the original classic vinyl-LP album. Also, anything contained in the original LP, such as gatefolds, booklets, lyric sheets, posters, printed LP sleeves, stickers, embosses, special LP cover paper/inks/textures and/or die cuts, are precisely replicated and included. An English-language lyric sheet is always included, even if the original LP did not have printed lyrics.

Then, there's the sonic quality: Mini-sleeves have dedicated remastering (20-Bit, 24-Bit, DSD, K2/K2HD, and/or HDCD), and can often be superior to the audio on the same title anywhere else in the world. There also may be bonus tracks unavailable elsewhere.

Each Japan mini-sleeve has an "obi" ("oh-bee"), a removable Japan-language promotional strip. The obi lists the Japan street date of that particular release, the catalog number, the mastering info, and often the original album's release date. Bonus tracks are only listed on the obi, maintaining the integrity of the original LP artwork. The obi's are collectable, and should not be discarded.

All mini-sleeve releases are tremendously limited editions mainly pressed on future orders only and once released immediately out of print. This fact along with other latter features we've mentioned make these titles rare collectibles that sell in the collectors markets for $100's of dollars apiece.

ON THE THRESHOLD OF A DREAM -

On The Threshold Of A Dream is the fourth album by The Moody Blues, released in 1969. Like most Moody albums, On The Threshold Of A Dream follows a concept. It explores dreams, especially on the second side, which climaxes with the "Voyage" suite, inspired in part by Richard Strauss's "Also Sprach Zarathustra."

This album is oozing with bright, splashy creative flourishes in two seemingly contradictory directions that somehow come together as a valid whole. On The Threshold Of A Dream provided The Moody Blues with their first British #1 album and remained on the charts for an astonishing 70 weeks.

The Moody Blues are regarded as one of the most innovative and successful rock bands in music history and you only have to put down the needle on this record to be convinced that this bold statement is indeed a fact.

"...in 1969 this was envelope-ripping, genre-busting music, scaling established boundaries into unknown territory, not only "outside the box" but outside of any musical box that had been conceived at that moment." - Bruce Eder, allmusic

The entire album is underpinned with a wistful melancholy as the grandiose rockers capture the bittersweet fleeting moments of the '60s.

Full title, 'On The Threshold Of A Dream'. Japanese reissue of the British rock icon's 1969 album. Limited to 5,000 pieces, it's packaged in a miniature LP sleeve.

SEVENTH SOJOURN -

Every song on this sojourn is worthy of mention, and their lush instrumentation and lyrical genius are strikingly evident.

The album opens on a song that everyone can relate to at some point in their lives, "Lost in a Lost World", before moving onto the upbeat and almost wistful "New Horizons". "For My Lady" is a classic Moody Blues (and hence beautiful) love song, while "The Land of Make-Believe" is another thoughtful musical look at love, happiness, and reality. The closest thing to a pure "rock" song on the album is the closing track "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)." It's a great track, in which the Moody Blues tell their fans not to look to them for answers... after all... they're just singers. A far cry from some of today's "artists" that can't wait to spread their own agendas/causes by any medium possible. The Moody Blues encouraged individual thought rather than giving their fans ready made plastic opinions. Although a little different from the other 7 tracks on the disc, "I'm Just a Singer" in no way detracts from the album's continuity, and is a great way to close out the disc.

Overall considered the "Overlooked Masterpiece" in the Moody Blues catalogue. Overshadowed by "Days of Future Passed" (another incredible album), Sojourn is another tremendous offering from a legendary band. Don't miss it.

IN SEARCH OF THE LOST CHORD -

This is one of the group’s finest pop-psychodelia recordings. Incorporating sound effects like creaking doors, explosions and everything a 1960’s mellotron could do, this experience is as close to what an acid trip must be.

After the grand experiment with a symphonic orchestra of DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, the Moody Blues and the producer Tony Clarke lock themselves in the studio in 1968 to create a magnificent musical expedition across the mind. “Legend Of A Mind” is maybe the highest point flute player Ray Thomas has ever reached as a songwriter.

The part with the flute solo leaves you standing naked in the middle of a field embracing nature with your open arms, and the intense ending leads you through a speed-of-light journey across your dreams and feelings. “Ride4 My See-Saw” is a standard concert encore and “Dr. Livingstone” soars from simple pop rock to fast paced rock and roll with enough bridges and changes to satisfy any mind. “Voices In The Sky” is Justin Hayward’s beautiful ballard contribution and “The Actor” is nothing short of plaintive, soul searching -- the harmonies are incredible.
