Borgman provides a case history of one of his illustration assignments from its initial concept to the finished illustration, and covers such subjects as: deciding on a style, color sketching, finding reference material, and doing comprehensive layouts. He includes eight different illustrations demonstrating eight methods of working in pencil, ink line, ink tone, markers, watercolor, designer's colors (guoache), acrylic paints, and mixed media. For each medium, he shows, in step~by~step format, several techniques for developing an illustration. A thirty~two page, four~color section shows all of the finished illustrations. The easy~to~follow text and step~by~step demonstrations make this a necessary, drawing~board resource."
