AMERICAN BEAUTY - LIMITED EDITION ORIGINAL RELEASE 12 INCH E.P. ISSUE - 4 PRESIOUSLY UNRELEASED SONGS PRESSED ON 150 GRAM VINYL
This truly fine E.P., Bruce's release for Record Store Day this year (along with his uncredited playing on Ronnie Spector's superb 1977 single reissue), this features three definite outtakes for the underrated High Hopes album, a great album excepting "This Is Your Sword," and one more song that may have been re-recorded for that ("Hurry Up Sundown", it's uncertain here).
The title track here is a very Stones-y song, that shares the exact same melody - but slower - as Frankie Fell In Love, which itself is based on Little Steven's Lost Boys' song "Affection" from his great lost Lost Boys CD, "Nobody Loves And Leaves Alive." (All three have a very Rolling Stones sound, none more than the Lost Boys; it's on the Sopranos' "Peppers And Eggs" soundtrack if you haven't heard it).
Bruce plays a million instruments on this really lush, beautiful production.
He is joined on this by a name I recognize; the drummer from The Vandals, who is also on "Hurry Up Sundown". Both artists did Heartbreak Hotel live, makes sense.
Mary Mary has the basic rhythm as "We Take Care of Our Own," though more in the style of the song "Leah" from the Devils and Dust album. The chorus gives pause as to how original this is, or if Mike Nesmith deserves a credit. But it overall sounds nothing like The Monkees' song, or the Paul Butterfield Blues Band song, of the same name.
Thank goodness Bruce held onto this song, or we might never have had the incredible "We Take Care Of Our Own" from the GREAT Wrecking Ball album.
A song originally recorded for Magic, about a man missing a woman named Mary - Bruce's favorite female name

Bruce Springsteen had become increasingly downcast as a songwriter during his recording career, and his pessimism bottomed out with Nebraska . But Born in the U.S.A., his popular triumph, which threw off seven Top Ten hits and became one of the best-selling albums of all time, trafficked in much the same struggle, albeit set to galloping rhythms and set off by chiming guitars. That the witless wonders of the Reagan regime attempted to co-opt the title track as an election-year campaign song wasn't so surprising: the verses described the disenfranchisement of a lower-class Vietnam vet, and the chorus was intended to be angry, but it came off as anthemic. Then, too, Springsteen had softened his message with nostalgia and sentimentality, and those are always crowd-pleasers. "Glory Days" may have employed Springsteen's trademark disaffection, yet it came across as a couch potato's drunken lament. But more than anything else, Born in the U.S.A. marked the first time that Springsteen's characters really seemed to relish the fight and to have something to fight for. They were not defeated ("No Surrender"), and they had friendship ("Bobby Jean") and family ("My Hometown") to defend. The restless hero of "Dancing in the Dark" even pledged himself in the face of futility, and for Springsteen, that was a step. The "romantic young boys" of his first two albums, chastened by "the working life" encountered on his third, fourth, and fifth albums and having faced the despair of his sixth, were still alive on this, his seventh, with their sense of humor and their determination intact. Born in the U.S.A. was their apotheosis, the place where they renewed their commitment and where Springsteen remembered that he was a rock & roll star, which is how a vastly increased public was happy to treat him. - All Music Guide

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN MAGIC 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION LP - ORIGINAL RELEASE WITH ORIGINAL MARKETING STICKER STILL ATTACHED FOR COLLECTORS.
2009 Grammy Award Winner for:
• 'Best Rock Song'(Girls In Their Summer Clothes)
2008 Grammy Award Winner for:
• 'Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance' (Radio Nowhere)
• 'Best Rock Song' (Radio Nowhere)
'Magic' is the first new studio album by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band since 2002's GRAMMY Award-winning, multi-platinum, number one album 'The Rising' (Columbia Records). Produced and mixed by Brendan O'Brien, the album features eleven new Springsteen songs and was recorded at Southern Tracks Recording Studio in Atlanta, GA.
Bruce Springsteen's longtime manager Jon Landau said, "'Magic' is a high energy rock (album). It's light on its feet, incredibly well played by Bruce and the members of the E Street Band, and, as always, has plenty to say. It's also immensely entertaining. 'Magic' is the third collaboration between Bruce and Brendan O'Brien and is a culmination of their very productive creative relationship."
The lead single will be "Radio Nowhere," a track Landau says "has a real anthemic quality to it. If it doesn't get you out of your seat, I don't know what will." -
"Magic is, in one way, the most openly nostalgic record Springsteen has ever made. The arrangements, the performances and Brendan O’Brien’s wall-of-surf production are mined with echoes and near-direct quotes of classic records, including Springsteen’s: the early-Sixties beach-radio bounce of “Girls in Their Summer Clothes‚” the overcast-Pet Sounds orchestration of “Your Own Worst Enemy‚”the “Jungleland” ring of Roy Bittan’s piano rainfall in “I’ll Work for Your Love.” “You’ll Be Comin’ Down” sounds like it strutted over from The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle. “Livin’ in the Future” is “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” with a new, thick coat of twang and a full tank of lust. After wrapping himself in a thousand fiddles on The Seeger Sessions, Springsteen has rediscovered the boardwalk-dance-party power of Born to Run and the Mitch Ryder and Jackie DeShannon encore covers in his 1975 and ‘78 shows." - David Frick, 5 Star Review from Rolling Stone
"In a case like [Magic], a listener can criticize the sound quality all they want. But when the artist owns his own masters and is in total control, the record sounds exactly like they wanted it to. ...on a really good sound system, it sounds a little bit warmer on vinyl." - Bob Ludwig

Marking his 17th studio album, Wrecking Ball features 11 new Springsteen recordings and was produced by Ron Aniello with Bruce Springsteen and executive producer Jon Landau.
Long-time manager Jon Landau stated the record is an ambitious "big-picture piece of work. It's a rock record that combines elements of both Bruce's classic sound and his Seeger Sessions experience, with new textures and styles". The record has "social overtones" and a "very pronounced spiritual dimension" adds Landau. "It extends and deepens the vision that has animated all of Bruce's work".
"Wrecking Ball" is a "musical narrative" from Bruce's perspective on the state of the world in 2011-2012, including the US economy, US politics, and other social commentaries.

180g Double LP Plus CD Contains Springsteen Originals Plus Three Covers!
Features Duets With Tom Morello!
High Hopes finds Bruce in a number of different musical settings, and includes the members of the E Street Band as well as guitarist Tom Morello and many additional players. Recorded in New Jersey, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Australia and New York City, High Hopes marks Bruce’s 18th studio album and includes his own liner notes that detail the album’s evolution.
Morello joined Bruce and the E Street Band on tour in Australia in March 2013 (sitting in for Steve Van Zandt), and became, as Bruce says, “my muse, pushing the rest of this project to another level.” Besides his guitar playing on the album, Morello also duets with Bruce on ”The Ghost of Tom Joad.” Clarence Clemons, who passed away in 2011, and Danny Federici, who passed away in 2008, also appear on several songs of what Springsteen calls “some of our best unreleased material from the past decade.”
"It's unlike any other release in his catalog in that half of the songs have been heard before, either on record or onstage. Three of those tracks are covers from acts that have not received much mainstream exposure, while the other nine are Springsteen originals. Songs like "This Is Your Sword" and "Hunter of Invisible Game" are complete mysteries..." - rollingstone.

180g Vinyl Remastered from Original Source Tapes by Bob Ludwig!
The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen, released on September 11, 1973. Bruce Springsteen’s sophomore album featured a more cinematic style of songwriting, with the kind of outsized suburban characters that would become Springsteen’s calling card (“4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy),” “Incident on 57th Street,” “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)”). It also featured a crucial sonic addition to the nascent E Street Band: organist Danny Federici joined keyboardist David Sancious, bassist Garry Tallent, drummer Vini “Mad Dog” Lopez and saxophonist Clarence Clemons in the band’s ranks.
"...the album's songs contain the best realization of Springsteen's poetic vision, which soon enough would be tarnished by disillusionment. He would later make different albums, but he never made a better one. The truth is, The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle is one of the greatest albums in the history of rock & roll." -William Ruhlmann, allmusic.

Born to Run is the third studio album by the American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen. It was released on August 25, 1975 through Columbia Records. It was make or break time for Bruce when his third album was released; fortunately, he delivered an album that established him as the voice of a generation and one of the strongest acts in American rock and roll. Born To Run joined together Bruce’s evocative lyrical gifts, grandiose arrangements that recalled Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound, and the shaggy jam-band prowess of his live ensemble, The E Street Band (now featuring the talents of additional pianist Roy Bittan, drummer Max Weinberg and Springsteen’s longtime musical partner Steven Van Zandt).
The result: an album that almost immediately became a Top 5 smash, earning Springsteen cover stories in Time and Newsweek in the same week and resting atop scores of greatest-albums-of-all-time-lists, from Rolling Stone to VH1.
"Layers of guitar, layers of echo on the vocals, lots of keyboards, thunderous drums -- Born to Run had a big sound, and Springsteen wrote big songs to match it....Born to Run was an intentional masterpiece. It declared its own greatness with songs and a sound that lived up to Springsteen's promise..." -William Ruhlman, allmusic

180g Vinyl Remastered from Original Source Tapes by Bob Ludwig!
Nebraska is the sixth studio album by Bruce Springsteen. The album was released on September 30, 1982. One of the most challenging albums of Springsteen’s career, Nebraska, a collection of stark home solo demo recordings, features haunted, difficult characters making choices in Reagan-era America that offered little of the salvation or redemption that frequently served as hallmarks of Bruce’s other works. The result was one of the most critically appreciated albums of Springsteen’s celebrated career.

Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. is the debut studio album by Bruce Springsteen, released in 1973. Springsteen’s first album was an intriguing introduction to the artist’s distinctive gift for Dylanesque lyrical wordplay. Lead track “Blinded By The Light” later became a chart-topper for Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, while songs like “For You” and “Spirit In The Night” remain staples of Bruce’s live act.
"...the melodies were well developed and the rhythms, pushed by drummer Vincent Lopez, were breakneck." -William Ruhlmann, allmusic

| Bruce Springsteen's 21st album, We Shall Overcome, The Seeger Sessions - ORIGINAL RELEASE - features Bruce's personal interpretations of 13 traditional songs, all of them associated with the legendary guiding light of American folk music, Pete Seeger, for whom the album is named. Speaking of the origins of new music, Springsteen said, "So much of my writing, particularly when I write acoustically, comes straight out of the folk tradition. Making this album was creatively liberating because I have a love of all those different roots sounds…they can conjure up a world with just a few notes a few words." Springsteen recorded the album with a large ensemble. | |
