THE BOOK OF TALIESYN - Most rock n roll fans think of Deep Purple as a premiere hard rock n roll band with some intriguing organ passages which compliment the shrieking vocals of Ian Gillan as well as some elaborate Ritchie Blackmore. However, Deep Purple was not always so hard and heavy from the start. On their first three LPs, Deep Purple's music had a very pronounced psychedelic tone with even some classical touches. This second release, The Book of Taliesyn is certainly high on creativity because of these aforementioned touches.

Especially noteworthy are the covers of Neil Diamond's Kentucky Woman, the Beatles' We Can Work It Out, and River Deep Mountain High. The drumming on these songs as well as the harmony vocals inject a great deal of pulse into these songs The ballad Anthem is a nice diversion from some of the rockin' tunes on the record. Listen, Learn, Read On and Shield add some supernatural mystical tones that are truly captivating. The organ work by Jon Lord is extremely exemplary.

Friday Music continues its extensive Deep Purple 180g Audiophile Vinyl Series with their 1971 blockbuster Fireball! Often considered one of the more adventurous and prog-rock leaning efforts from their catalog, it truly rewarded their huge fan base with some very solid artistry and memorable tunes. The classic Mark II line up featuring Ian Gilan, Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Paice, Roger Glover and Jon Lord were on board for this platinum album, which also netted the band one of their biggest hits with Strange Kind of Woman.

Soon after its release, Deep Purple were headlining concert halls across the globe and to this day have maintained their status as the innovators and forefathers of classic hard rock and heavy metal.

The songs range from the explosive title track Fireball, to the smasher Fools, and then for some incredible country picking from Blackmore on fan favorite Anyone's Daughter. A very cohesive effort from this power quintet indeed!

Deep Purple survived a seemingly endless series of lineup changes and a dramatic mid-career shift from grandiose progressive rock to ear-shattering heavy metal to emerge as a true institution of the British hard rock community; once credited in the Guinness Book of World Records as the globe's loudest band, their revolving-door roster launched the careers of performers including Ritchie Blackmore, David Coverdale, and Ian Gillan. 

Slaves and Masters is the thirteenth studio album by Deep Purple, and was released in 1990. At the time the album was released, their lineup consisted of guitarist Ritchie Blackmore (who had returned to the Purple fold in 1984 after leaving the band to form Rainbow following the release of Stormbringer in November 1974), singer Joe Lynn Turner (who was once the lead singer of Rainbow), keyboardist/organist Jon Lord, drummer Ian Paice, and bassist Roger Glover. 

Longtime Purple followers were more than happy with the return of Blackmore. "King Of Dreams", "The Cut Runs Deep", and "Fire In The Basement" are all classic Deep Purple tracks. Blackmore's guitar solos and Lord's keyboard runs harp back to the Deep Purple of old. 

The album sounds like a cross between Rainbow and a Deep Purple album. Now available again on heavy 180 grams vinyl with an insert.
