PAINTERS GUIDE ON PREPARATION AND APPLICATION

2K ACRYLIC PAINT - 2K PRIMER & 2K CLEAR LACQUER

PREPERATION

(1) Remove any rust and treat with Ferrozinc rust cure.

(2)  Prime any bare metal with self-etch primer.

(3) Where body filler is applied make sure you do not overlap on to existing paintwork

(4) Flat with 600 grit wet/dry paper or 400 grit DA discs remove any dust with a blow gun, then wipe the surface with a tack cloth before you use pre paint wax & grease remover.

2K ACRYLIC PRIMER

(5) Mixing ratio: 4 parts primer 1-part 2k Hardener then add 10-15% 2k Thinners to total volume mix this can vary depending on the spray gun setup. Stir Well only mix the amount of material you intend to use in one application.

(6) Apply a cover coat and leave for 10-15 minutes depending on temperature / weather conditions then apply a second coat. When dry sand the primer with a fine wet/dry paper 600 or 800 grit. Remove and dust with a tack cloth. Avoid leaving primed surface overnight in a damp workshop, primers are porous so will absorb moisture resulting in poor adhesion.

PRE-PAINT

(7) Prepare workshop ready to apply topcoat. Dampen the floor and if possible, earth the car to stop static. We strongly recommend you wear hooded overalls and use the correct protection: face mask - gloves & overalls only use 2k materials in a well-ventilated workshop or spray booth (see Health and Safety data on our website:  www.jawel.co.uk

2K PAINT APPLICATION

(8) It is most important to STIR PAINT WELL AND CHECK COLOUR. Mix the paint 2 parts paint 1-part 2k hardener then add 10% 2k thinners to volume, this may vary depending on spray gun setup. Apply a light cover coat of paint, leave for 10-15 minutes, depending on conditions, 2K Paint and Clear Coats are direct very high gloss materials when applied correctly,

(9)  If you need to cut and polish, we recommend you leave overnight and then use the new Diamond Cut 3000 liquid compound. Runs in paint or clear coat can normally be flatted out. I have found the best way is to use 1500 or 2000 grit wet / dry paper rub on a bar of soap and lightly flat the run. Do not try and flat out in one application, lightly flat then leave for a couple of hours or longer if possible and repeat the process again taking it away in stages before compounding / polishing.
