Original 1976 watercolor painting signed B. Wyeth, believed to be by California artist Barbara Wyeth, depicting the former Cordelia Junction roadside landmark in Fairfield, California.
This is a highly specific piece of Solano County and Northern California history. The painting shows the Cordelia Junction building with the rooftop sign reading “Cordelia Junction — Shops — Restaurant,” a windmill at left, arched entry windows, and the distinctive row of vintage railroad cars stretching along the side of the property.
Cordelia Junction was located near the major I-80 / I-680 / Highway 12 interchange and later became known to many locals as the Cordelia Junction Antique Mall, a memorable roadside stop filled with antiques, collectibles, shops, restaurant history, and old train cars. The antique mall has since closed, making this original artwork a rare visual record of a vanished Fairfield / Cordelia landmark.
Signed B. Wyeth and dated ’76 lower right. The artist is believed to be Barbara Wyeth, a local/regional California artist known for watercolor and graphite scenes, including historic and architectural subjects. Attribution is based on the signature, date, style, medium, and regional subject matter.
Executed on high-quality Arches France watercolor paper, with the ARCHES FRANCE watermark visible when held to light. This supports the piece as an original artist-made watercolor rather than a print or reproduction.
Large-format original watercolor on paper.
A wonderful piece for collectors of Fairfield, Cordelia, Solano County history, California roadside architecture, railroad car landmarks, vanished businesses, local restaurant history, architectural renderings, and Northern California nostalgia.
