Austin Campbell was a self-taught sculptor from St. Mary, Jamaica, who originally trained in cabinetmaking. After moving to Spanish Town, he formalised his artistic training at the Jamaica School of Art (now known as the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts).
Throughout his career, he became highly decorated, winning over a dozen awards at the Jamaica Annual Fine Arts Exhibition/Festival, including a silver medal in 1975
