Hi! You're looking at an excellent overall condition book which is a collection of writings from the Journals of REVERND FRANCIS ASBURY, one of the Christian founders of Methodism in the United States--the book is an unstated FIRST EDITION published by Eaton & Mains in 1904 and a HARDCOVER with no dustjacket as issued. This book is in excellent overall condition and has bold and clear gold gilt lettering on the spine edge and front cover, light dings and very light fraying on the spine and opening tips, a slight abrasion on the lower portion of the spine edge, a light split and exposure of the binding cheesecloth at the front board's binding with some tape placed over it, but no loose pages and a slight exposure of the binding cheesecloth between the last text page and the second to last blank page, but no other binding issues, a gift inscription on the blank second page and just very light shelfwear and very light evidence of gentle browsing but no other significant imperfections! The book is titled The Heart of Asbury's Journal: Being the Substance of the Printed Journals of the Reverend Francis Asbury, Forty-Five Years an Itinerant Preacher in America and Thirty-Two Years a General Superintendent of the Methodist Episcopal Church and it was written by FRANCIS ASBURY and edited by EZRA SQUIER TIPPLE; it was published by Eaton & Mains in 1904 and is an unstated 1st EDITION copy.
This volume pairs Asbury’s vivid travelogue with Ezra Squier Tipple’s scholarly introduction and added illustrations, preserving the spirit and hardships of early American Methodism. It provides context for the era, honors the preacher’s devotion, and highlights the evolution of church life from coast to frontier.
A fantastic find, and a beautiful copy of this book!
