Transition Magazine. No 39 Volume 8. Rajat Neogy Editor (Ghana 1971) RARE ISSUE.

Transition is widely regarded as one of the most significant African literary and intellectual magazines. Founded in Kampala, Uganda, in 1961 by Rajat Neogy, it became Africa's leading forum for political and cultural debate during the era of decolonization and gained a global reputation for "tough-minded" criticism. Issues 1-37 were published in Uganda, but following Neogy’s release from prison where he was sentenced for sedition, he was forced into exile and publication of the magazine moved to Ghana and then to Nigeria.

Issue no 39 was published in Accra, Ghana. This notable issue features contributions from literary figures such as Wole Soyinka, Kofi Awoonor, Ali Mazrui and Chinua Achebe. The issue also contains an exclusive essay ‘A Letter from Prison’ smuggled out of Greece and written by Greek professor and anti-junta activist George Alexander Mangakis in which he details the psychological realities of his torture and imprisonment.
