You're looking at a very good condition book which is VERY RARE, hard to find and OUT OF PRINT and a classic Vietnam War account of the failed Vinh Long campaign in South Vietnam written by HARVEY MEYERSON--the book is a collectible FIRST EDITION and STATED FIRST PRINTING and a HARDCOVER with the ORIGINAL DUSTJACKET with inner flaps which have been removed, with the complete book's notes attached to the right edge of the book's first blank page. This book is in very good condition and is a former library copy with typical markings and a plain mylar plastic sleeve which is NOT attached to the boards (the inner flaps of the dustjacket have been removed but the complete notes are attached to the first blank page at the back of the book, and the edges of the covers are attached to the boards with tape); the book itself has a very light forward list of the spine edge, some fading on the turquoise-tinted upper page edge, very light dings on the spine tips and light dings on the opening tips, two small stray marks on the upper portion of p. XV of the Preface section and just very light shelfwear and light evidence of gentle browsing, and the dustjacket has a very small abrasion on the lower left corner of the front cover and lower right corner of the back cover, a few very light scuffs and just light shelfwear otherwise but no other significant imperfections.  The book is titled Vinh Long and it was written by HARVEY MEYERSON with a foreword by CONGRESSMAN JOHN V. TUNNEY; it was published by Houghton Mifflin Company in 1970 and is a 1st EDITION and STATED 1st PRINTING copy.

This report is unique. Harvery Meyerson, a journalist, elected to search for an understanding of our involvement in Vietnam by focusing entirely on Vinh Long, a province  in the Mekong Delta southwest of Saigon. He became intimately acquainted with its bustling capital, its villages, its tiny hamlets, its remote outposts.

"We were trying to inject a suffering people with the American dream and they were rejected it as the blood stream might reject a foreign body." Thus he states the theme of his two-year study of the American effort in Vinh Long.

What emerges is a microcosm of the war that brings much of its apparent confusion into sharp focus. We follow a pacification project from its conception in an air-conditioned conference room, through its implementation in the field, to its disastrous "success" months later. We learn the hitherto untold story of the bizarre events leading up to the Tet Offensive that changed the shape of the war.
