1995er Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port Taylor's Douro, Portugal 1,50l - 189,00 Euro - 1,0l - 126,00 Euro Quinta de Vargellas
Quinta de Vargellas is unique among Douro wineries. Located far away in the wild hills of the eastern Douro Valley, the quinta was already famous for the finest port wines in the 1820s. Today it is one of the most important wineries in the world.
In years when Taylor's does not declare a classic Vintage Port, they sometimes bottle a Single Quinta Vintage Port. It is made exclusively from grapes from Quinta de Vargellas and bears the name of the winery on the label.
Since Single Quinta Vintage Port generally matures faster than classic Taylor's Vintage Port, Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port is very accessible in comparatively young years. Nevertheless, it also has enough potential to age for many years.
The elegant, bouquet-rich ports of Quinta de Vargellas are the most famous single Quinta Vintage Ports of all. Their reputation, which is often even higher than that of many classic Vintage Ports, makes them sought-after wines at sales auctions. Much like classic Vintage Ports, Quinta de Vargellas Single Quinta Vintage Port is released to the trade soon after it is bottled. In doing so, Taylor's holds back a portion of the vintage to offer for sale when it is ready to drink.
Quinta de Vargellas 1995
The unusually hot spring encouraged early budbreak. By mid-April, the vines were already showing good growth. Flowering in May proceeded under near-perfect conditions, and temperatures, still moderately cool in early summer, rose to very high levels in August. The harvest at Quinta de Vargellas began on September 13, a week later than at most other wineries in the region. Harvest conditions were perfect and the grapes showed the highest sugar levels in years. Cool temperatures noticeably extended fermentation times, supporting great extraction of color and fruity flavors from the berry skins.
lagern. |
