●Synopsis
Four siblings are separated from their parents and sent to live with an eccentric professor in the countryside. One day, the youngest, Lucy, finds a large wardrobe in an empty room, but when she opens the door, she finds herself in Narnia, a land ruled by a cruel witch! Due to a prophecy that "four humans will become kings who save Narnia," the children's lives are threatened by the witch. The four, along with the sacred lion "Aslan," challenge the witch to battle... The first book in the Carnegie Medal winning series. An enduring masterpiece revived in a new translation!

●Key points of the new translation
In translating, great care has been taken to preserve the elegance of the original English. "We have cherished the 'enjoyment' that children in the UK and US experience when reading the original text—including the excitement and curiosity of encountering an unknown world—and have paid particular attention to the interpretation of the original text," states the translator in the afterword of the Kadokawa Tsubasa Bunko edition, which served as the basis for this book.

For example, in Chapter 13, when the witch asks Aslan, "Have you forgotten about the profound magic?", previous translations rendered Aslan as "It seems I have forgotten" or "I don't know, I might have forgotten." However, since Aslan would never forget something so important, the original "Let us say (let's assume)" has been retained, and in this book, it has been translated as "Let's assume he had forgotten."

Such passages, which would be difficult to translate correctly without careful attention, have been beautifully translated into modern Japanese.
