Offered for sale is an antique Chinese Shoushan stone carved round brush washer (bi xi / water pot), dating to the Late Qing Dynasty to Republic Period (c.1875-1949), a classic scholar's desk item for traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting.  

Craftsmanship & Design:

• Material & Form: Carved from a single block of natural multicolored Shoushan stone, in a plain, unadorned round form with a flared rim and shallow foot, showcasing the stone's natural texture and color.

• Function: A traditional brush washer used to hold water for moistening brushes and cleaning ink during calligraphy/painting, an essential accessory for the Chinese scholar's studio.

• Condition: Good antique condition, with natural age-related wear and surface scratches from use, no cracks, chips, or repairs. The stone has a rich natural patina, and the form is fully intact.
