Tetricus I AE Antoninianus Cologne AD 272-273

RIC V 80, Braithwell 180

EX BRAITHWELL HOARD, YORKSHIRE ENGLAND

This specimen was part of a hoard discovered in the UK in the year 2002 which contained 1331 coins ranging from Valerian to Probus, with the majority being Tetricus; whist not a rare or scarce coin in of itself, this historical importance from being part of a hoard is TREMENDOUS

Included with this coin, but not pictured as I am not sure of eBay's policy on showing what could be defined as 'legal documents', is the export paperwork and hoard information that was sent to me by York Coins upon my purchase of this coin many years ago

Although not rare, the reverse of Hilaritas Avgg is a much scarcer type for Tetricus, with AVGG indicating either Tetricus II had been raised from Caesar to Augustus, or Tetricus was attempted to appease (or plead) with Aurelian by recognizing him as Augustus, much in the same manner Carausius would use with Diocletian later in the 3rd Century

Ex York Coins, with their tag and documentation

All coins are authentic and from my own personal collection. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Over the coming weeks I will be adding more fixed price listings of Late Roman Bronze Coins so please check back with me.

If there is any specific type you are looking for let me know. I have an extensive Late Antique collection with AE and some AR issues dating from the mid 3rd Century AD to the 8th Century AD

I strive to make accurate impressions of the coins I list, thus my listings tend to have a multitude of photos, taken under different light sources and from different angles, as there is nothing worse (in my opinion) than purchasing a coin and having it arrive looking nothing like the photo!

Thank You
