In 1997, I had the radio professionally serviced by a man who was in the radio repair for over 50 years. After 28 years of sitting in the basement, I turned on the radio last night as seen in the video. Since there is a shelf life on filters, you will need to replace some of them. You can hear an unwanted frequency noise.
Radio appears to be all original except the speaker cloth looks too good to be original
According to the red label on the chassis, This radio was one of the first experimental AC radios marketed probably late 1920s.
The reason why in my opinion it is so rare is that 3 companies joined together to manufacture and market this experimental radio as listed in the red label. They were (1) Radio Corporation of America, (2) General Electric Company and (3) Westinghouse Electric Company Please see the red label.
Notice that there is a antenna wire and a ground wire. I only connected the antenna wire. Maybe the ground wire should have also been connected.
The wood is very nice, probably rain forest wood, monkey wood or old grain wood.
